2011
The Beginning
The Centre for Global Surgery was established with a commitment to improving surgical and trauma care through education, research, innovation, and global partnerships.
Building Global Partnerships
CGS begins its collaboration in Tanzania, laying the foundation for long-term work in trauma care, training, research, and data systems.
2012
Entering New Contexts
CGS expands its international work through a partnership in Ukraine, supporting trauma care training and capacity building.
2015
Strengthening Local Capacity
CGS expands its global partnerships to Nepal and Palestine, working with local partners to strengthen trauma care, training, and capacity building.
2019
Expanding to West Africa
CGS begins its collaboration in Senegal, strengthening partnerships in surgical and trauma education, training, and research.
2021
From iTrauma™ to AMBER
Building on its experience with iTrauma™, CGS developed AMBER, an electronic data collection system designed for low-resource settings, with offline functionality, language translation, and simple customization.
2022–2023
Reimagining Trauma Training
During the COVID-19 pandemic, CGS adapted the Trauma and Disaster Team Response (TDTR) course into a hybrid model, combining online learning with in-person skills sessions, team exercises, and simulation. The online component is hosted on UN SurgHub, where TDTR is among the platform’s early and widely accessed courses.
2025–2026
Scaling Impact Through Local Leadership
CGS continues to expand its programs through partnerships with local institutions and healthcare professionals, including Bulgaria and Ukraine, supporting trauma training, local capacity building, and knowledge exchange across diverse settings
